TASK 1 - Due 15th January 2015


To achieve the distinction you need to originate, develop and research an idea for a media product showing creativity and flair and working independently to professional expectations           

Create a new title and blog/evidence all of your work. 

You have been given a subject matter and a group to work in.

1. Begin research into your subject matter and identify who the target audience are
document all research onto your blog, include images and information about the topic.

500 Words minimum 
  • Analyse two current articles/images/campaigns that have been affected by this topic. (include any links or images on your blog).
  • Consider the constraints around the topic. What are the ethical issues? are there any laws that have to be protected? Are there any codes of practice?  
  • Plan and prepare a 1-2 minute Vox pop - take images and find images 5-6 photos, that will help you to construct questions around your topic to enable better feedback from the vox pops.  
  • Create a mood board - Plan and prepare a 30 second trailer, showing the development of your ideas around your subject matter.

Creative Media Production Management


The aim of this unit is to provide learners with the understanding, knowledge and skills required to manage the production of a media product from the initial idea through to completion.

You have been asked by Vimeo 1 a new online company to create a new programme that must go live on 22 January at 4.00pm. For this assignment you have been given roles that you must fulfil if you are to gain the approval of Vimeo and meet the criteria for this unit. Roles are listed below and you must choose one in your group before you begin. 6 weeks is not a lot of time, so excellent planning and preparation must be included. To add to this Vimeo1 has added in blue some of the things that it expects to see in this new online activity.

2 - Emmanuelle, Mike, Kyle, Tristan (Are video games a misogynisitic form of entertainment)
3 - Sharon, Nusaybah, Nadia, Daisy (Is consumerism out of control (black friday)
4 - Marlon, Miguel, Ptolemy (Do we rely too much on technology)
5 - Joviel, Gwen, Andrew (How will 3D printing imapct on the future)

All of the above must be included in this assignment. the group will act as one production company so it is imperative to work together to achieve this. As a group you must act quickly to complete research on your ideas immediately. If for any reason, the project is not completed on the due date, there will be no grades awarded.

TASK 3: Due November 28th

To achieve a distinction you will need to originate and develop a video piece for exhibition in a specific location showing creativity and flair and produce detailed plans for an idea for a video installation piece. 


Plan your video installation: 

  • An outline of your idea (on memory), what is it about? what will happen in your installation? 
  • Include illustrations
  • Storyboard - This should be on blackboard
  • Photos or images (for example images of your chosen memory)
  • A written description of the space where you will install your work
  • A photograph of the above space


Detailed pre-production plans: 
  • Location
  • Crew
  • Cast
  • Equipment
  • Schedule
  • Health and Safety checklist (risk assessment) 

All of this information needs to be uploaded to your blog so must be spell and grammar checked.

TASK 2: Due 19th November


To achieve a distinction you should be able to devise a video installation in a special location by visiting at least two exhibition spaces and to use the visits to originate and develop thoroughly thought-through ideas for a video piece for exhibition in a specific location showing creativity and flair and working independently to professional expectation.

1. Visit the Tate Modern, take notes on the installations and spaces you see.  
2. Feedback on the visit, discuss two spaces and the different forms that the installations can take. 

Consider: 
  • Artist vision - your vision of how you will use the space for your memory.
  • Audience perception - how do you want the audience to feel in the space?
  • Use of video cameras, still cameras, artwork, film, animation, digital, voice, dialogue, music, electronic, silence, lighting, projection or screen, single or multiple images sound technologies used, if used. How will you use these in your chosen space?
  • Chosen venue - Size, area, reasons why?

Task 1 - 500 words, completed by Thursday 23rd 5pm

To achieve a distinction write an illustrated report, which critically evaluates the work of a number of  video/experimental artists with supporting arguments and elucidated examples expressing ideas fluently and using subject terminology correctly.

Your blog should contain the following: 

  • You must all set up a blog on blogger and send me the blog link. Not tumblr, I want to link the account. Your work must be posted on your blog.  
1. Set up blog, you may need to do this on your phone.
2. Go to layout - add gadget - set up link list - Add my name and URL, 
south-thamesmedia3.blogspot.co.uk - add - save, and then on layout page, save arrangement. 
3. Begin blogging. 

Your essay must include: 
  • A description of the works chosen, including the images and sounds on screen; Research existing artists and analyse their work. 
  • The space or context in which the work is exhibited. 
  • Who is the audience for this work? Consider age, gender, demographics, psychographics (other media likes). Apply uses and gratifications theory.      
  • A critical evaluation of the work.
  • Include relevant illustrations of your chosen artists’ work.

Your report should be approx 1000 words in total, spell and grammar checked. 

500 words to be completed by 5pm Thursday.
